About Broughty Ferry Traders' Association

The Broughty Ferry Traders’ Association was founded in the early 1900’s “to foster and promote trade and business generally within Broughty Ferry and to maintain and preserve, and where possible, improve and increase the amenities of the area and the wellbeing and prosperity of its inhabitants.”- Quite a claim!

However the Association has played an important role in Broughty Ferry’s past and will continue to do so in future. Currently around 100 local businesses in all sectors – from retail to hospitality, professional services and trades, are members of the Broughty Ferry Traders’ Association and together we create a strong and united voice to safeguard the best interests of the business community in Broughty Ferry.

There are many benefits to being a member of the BFTA. A reminder of some of the ways BFTA has worked to the benefit of the local business community in recent years:

Gala Week
First started by the Association back in the early 1900’s, Gala Week has been run annually for the past 40 years and has now become the area’s foremost community Festival. BFTA members report increased business during Gala Week particularly those taking part in “The Legendary Window Guessing Competition”!

Fighting Your Corner
The BFTA continue to work actively with local authorities and other community groups on issues which benefit businesses in Broughty Ferry such as enhanced facilities, parking, pavements and aesthetic improvements.

Christmas Lights Night
The BFTA fund, purchase and erect Christmas lighting annually in December, and organise a street concert with musical entertainment to enhance the festive atmosphere in Broughty Ferry for the commercial benefit of all businesses in the area.
